Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Matt Leinart (at SF): 49ers were No. 26 in pass defense last year, allowing 223 yards per game and 25 total touchdowns. Even though they signed cornerback Nate Clements this offseason, the backfield hasn’t improved much. Owners should therefore consider to start Leinart.

Matt Hasselbeck (vs. TB): Bucs secondary has allowed 26 TD-passes in ‘06 and was tied for second place, hasn’t been boosted in either way. This could be be an offensive outburst for Seahawks players this week.

Sit ‘Em

Philip Rivers (vs. CHI): Against a solid Bears defense, which ranked No. 2 in interceptions (with 24) in 2006, Rivers won’t be a guy to start. Expect Chicago to hurry Rivers all game long.

Jason Campbell (vs. MIA): Healthy or not, Miami defense will test Campbell this week as they were fifth in pass defense last year and third with 47 sacks.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Travis Henry (at BUF): Henry appears healthy and ready to go against one of his former teams, and he still doesn’t like how he was dumped from the Bills two years ago. Last year, as a member of the Titans, Henry had 25 carries for 135 yards at Buffalo.

LaMont Jordan (vs. DET): Jordan was a huge bust last year, but he has a chance for redemption starting this week. The Lions were No. 21 against the run last year and allowed 18 touchdowns. With no Dominic Rhodes for the first four games, look for Jordan to have some early value.

Sit ‘em

Clinton Portis (vs. MIA): Portis was limited during training camp with an injured knee, and although he’s expected to play this week, the matchup is not in his favor. The Dolphins were No. 8 in run defense last year and only allowed seven rushing touchdowns.

Warrick Dunn (at MIN): The Vikings were No. 1 in run defense last year and only allowed 62 yards per game. Dunn hasn’t rushed for 100 yards since Week 5 of last year, and now he’s losing carries to Jerious Norwood.

Wide receiver

Start ‘Em

Darrell Jackson (vs. ARI): How’s this for history: In Jackson’s last three games against the Cardinals, he had 18 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns. That was with the Seahawks, but Jackson seems to own Arizona. That should continue this week.

Deion Branch (vs. TB): Branch has to be looking forward to facing Tampa Bay cornerbacks Brian Kelly and Ronde Barber. The Bucs secondary was tied for second with the most passing touchdowns allowed at 26, and Branch has a chance to get in the end zone this week, his first opportunity as the No. 1 option for Matt Hasselbeck.
